Effective date: January 2026  ·  Last updated: March 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Mono (“we”, “our”, or “us”), developed and operated by Wbyte, handles — or more precisely, does not handle — information in connection with the Mono iOS application and the Mono Stone NFC device (collectively, the “Service”).

Privacy is not an afterthought for us. It is the architectural foundation of the Service. We have designed Mono from the ground up so that no personal data ever leaves your device. This policy exists to make that commitment explicit, transparent, and verifiable.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to:

  • The Mono iOS application available on the Apple App Store
  • The Mono Stone physical NFC device sold or distributed by Wbyte
  • Any future versions or updates to the above

It does not apply to any third-party websites, services, or applications that you may access through links present on our website. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any such third parties independently.

3. No Data Collection

Mono does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or usage information whatsoever.

This is not a legal caveat or a data minimisation claim — it is a statement of the technical architecture. We have not built any server infrastructure capable of receiving personal data from users, because doing so was never part of our design. Specifically, the Service does not collect:

  • Personal identifiers such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, or device identifiers
  • User accounts, profiles, or authentication credentials
  • Usage patterns, session durations, or behavioral analytics
  • App usage statistics or focus session metadata
  • Device model, operating system version, or hardware specifications
  • Location data of any kind
  • Crash logs, diagnostics, or performance telemetry
  • Advertising identifiers or tracking tokens

There is no opt-in or opt-out mechanism for data collection because there is no data collection to configure.

4. Data That Remains on Your Device

In order to function, Mono stores certain configuration data locally on your iPhone. This includes information such as which applications you have chosen to block and your personal preferences within the app. This data:

  • Remains exclusively on your device at all times
  • Is never transmitted to Wbyte, Apple, or any third party
  • Is protected by iOS system-level security and sandboxing
  • Is not synchronized via iCloud or any other cloud storage mechanism
  • Is permanently and irreversibly deleted when you uninstall the application

You retain full ownership and control of this data at all times. Wbyte has no ability to access, modify, or delete it.

5. Apple Screen Time API

Mono uses Apple's Screen Time API (part of the Family Controls framework) to enforce app restrictions on your device. It is important to understand how this works:

  • The Screen Time API operates entirely on-device and is managed by the iOS operating system
  • Information about which apps you choose to block is not accessible to Mono — only the system is granted that visibility
  • No Screen Time data is shared with Wbyte or Apple as a result of using Mono
  • Access to Screen Time capabilities requires your explicit authorization, which you may revoke at any time via iOS Settings

Apple's own privacy practices governing the Screen Time framework are described in Apple's Privacy Policy, which is independent of this document.

6. The Mono Stone (NFC Device)

The Mono Stone is a passive Near Field Communication (NFC) tag that serves as the physical activation mechanism for focus sessions within the Mono app. The following statements describe its technical operation:

  • The Mono Stone is a passive device: it contains no battery, no processor, and no wireless radio of its own
  • It only activates when physically tapped against a compatible iPhone
  • Upon a tap, it transmits only a static unique identifier to the Mono app running on your iPhone
  • It does not transmit personal information, location data, or any other user-identifiable data
  • It does not connect to the internet, Wbyte's servers, or any external service
  • The interaction between the Mono Stone and your iPhone is processed entirely on your device

The Mono Stone is intentionally designed to be a simple, stateless physical object. Its only function is to serve as a deliberate, physical trigger — reinforcing the intentional commitment that is central to Mono's philosophy.

7. Absence of Third-Party Services

Mono does not integrate any third-party SDKs, libraries, or services that collect, process, or receive data about you or your usage of the application. The following categories of third-party services are explicitly absent from the Service:

  • Analytics platforms (e.g. Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
  • Advertising networks (e.g. Google Ads, Meta Audience Network)
  • Crash and performance monitoring tools that transmit data externally (e.g. Crashlytics, Sentry)
  • Social media SDKs or login integrations
  • Cloud storage or synchronisation services

Because no third-party data processors are involved, there is no data sharing agreement to disclose, and no sub-processors to list.

8. Children's Privacy

Mono is designed in part as a tool for parental controls and is intended to be safe for use by, and on behalf of, children of all ages. Because Mono does not collect any personal data from any user — regardless of age — it is fully compliant with:

  • The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States
  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its provisions concerning children's data in the European Union
  • Apple's App Store guidelines regarding apps intended for or used by children

No parental consent is required for data collection purposes because no data is collected. Mono does not knowingly or unknowingly collect information from children or adults.

9. Legal Basis for Processing

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection legislation, a legal basis for processing personal data is required. As Mono does not process any personal data, no legal basis is applicable. This section is included solely for transparency and completeness, and to confirm explicitly that there is no personal data processing activity to disclose.

10. Your Rights as a Data Subject

Under applicable privacy laws, including the GDPR, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, or port personal data held about you, as well as the right to object to or restrict processing. With respect to Mono:

  • We hold no personal data about you on our systems, as none is transmitted to us
  • There is no data for us to provide, correct, erase, or transfer on your behalf
  • All locally stored configuration data on your device can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the application

If you have concerns about your rights or wish to submit a request, you are welcome to contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond to any inquiry in good faith and as promptly as practicable.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in applicable law, updates to the Service, or developments in our practices. When changes are made, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.

Significant changes will be communicated via App Store release notes accompanying the relevant update to the Mono application. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

The foundational commitment of this policy — that Mono does not collect, store, or transmit personal data — will not be changed without explicit prior notice and, where required by law, your consent. Any version of Mono that departs from this commitment will be clearly identified as such before you are asked to accept it.
